About This Story

Tonight's story is called Riyaadh and the Moonflower Garden. When Riyaadh discovers a secret garden of silver flowers that only bloom at night, he wants nothing more than to make them open — so that everyone in the village will see how well he tends them. But no matter how much he waters and digs and boasts, the buds stay shut tight. Confused and a little sad, Riyaadh learns from gentle old Baba Idris that the moonflowers can somehow tell the difference between a heart working to be seen and a heart working for Allah alone. By the end, Riyaadh returns to the garden quietly, with no one watching at all, and discovers that the smallest, most sincere intentions are the ones that make the most beautiful things bloom.
