Data Retention & Deletion Policy

Salaam Sleep — Data Retention & Deletion Policy

Last updated: 6 October 2026

This Data Retention & Deletion Policy explains how long Salaam Sleep keeps personal information and what happens to information when an account is deleted.

This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions and Cookie & Analytics Policy.

1. Our Retention Principle

Salaam Sleep aims to keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide the Salaam Sleep service
  • Maintain user accounts
  • Manage subscriptions
  • Provide customer support
  • Maintain security
  • Resolve technical or billing issues
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not intend to keep personal information indefinitely where it is no longer required.

2. Active Accounts

While your Salaam Sleep account remains active, we may retain information necessary to provide the service.

This may include:

  • Account information
  • Profile information
  • Preferences and settings
  • Story history and progress
  • Bedtime streak information
  • Rewards and gifts
  • Parent bedtime voice recordings
  • Subscription information
  • Support requests
  • Consent preferences
  • Other information necessary to provide Salaam Sleep

Some information may also be stored locally on your device.

3. Account Deletion

You may request or initiate deletion of your Salaam Sleep account through the available account controls or support system.

Once account deletion has been confirmed, your account and associated personal information will enter a 30-day deletion period.

During this period, information may remain within our systems for purposes such as:

  • Processing the deletion request
  • Security
  • Fraud prevention
  • Resolving accidental deletion requests
  • Technical processing
  • Meeting applicable legal obligations

After the 30-day deletion period, personal information associated with the deleted account will be permanently deleted or irreversibly anonymised unless we are legally required to retain specific information for longer.

4. 30-Day Deletion Period

Our standard account-deletion process is:

Day 0 — Account deletion requested and confirmed

The account enters the deletion process.

Days 1–30 — Deletion period

Relevant account information may remain stored while the deletion process is completed.

After 30 days — Permanent deletion

Personal information associated with the deleted account will be permanently deleted or irreversibly anonymised, except where continued retention is required by law.

Once permanent deletion has been completed, the account and its deleted information cannot normally be recovered.

5. Information Covered by Account Deletion

Where applicable, the deletion process is intended to cover user-specific information including:

  • User account information
  • Profiles
  • Child/avatar profiles
  • Account preferences
  • Settings
  • Story progress
  • Story history
  • Bedtime streak information
  • Rewards and gifts
  • Free-trial information
  • Parent bedtime voice recording records
  • Parent bedtime voice recording files
  • User-specific support information where appropriate
  • User-linked application records
  • Personal analytics identifiers where applicable

Global Salaam Sleep content, such as stories and general application content, is not deleted when an individual user deletes their account.

6. Parent Bedtime Voice Recordings

Parent bedtime voice recordings are treated as private user content.

When an account is permanently deleted, associated parent voice recordings and their underlying stored audio files will also be permanently deleted as part of the account-deletion process.

A parent may also be able to delete or replace a recording without deleting their entire account.

Deleting a recording should remove the recording from active use and initiate deletion of the associated stored file in accordance with our technical deletion procedures.

We do not retain permanently deleted parent recordings for advertising or AI model-training purposes.

7. Local Device Data

Salaam Sleep may store certain information locally on your device.

This may include:

  • Preferences
  • Cached content
  • Downloaded stories
  • Downloaded audio
  • Authentication/session information
  • Parent voice recording caches
  • Other PWA data

When an account is deleted, Salaam Sleep will aim to clear user-specific locally stored information where technically possible.

You may also clear application/browser data or uninstall Salaam Sleep from your device.

Clearing local device information does not itself constitute an account-deletion request.

8. Subscription and Payment Information

Deleting your Salaam Sleep account and cancelling a subscription are separate actions.

If you have an active paid subscription, you should ensure that it has been cancelled through the appropriate subscription-management process.

Payment processing is provided through Stripe.

Certain transaction, payment or accounting records may need to be retained for longer than 30 days where required for:

  • Tax
  • Accounting
  • Fraud prevention
  • Dispute resolution
  • Chargebacks
  • Legal obligations

Where such information must be retained, we will retain only what is reasonably necessary for the required purpose.

9. Support Records

Support requests may contain personal information.

Where a support record is directly associated with a deleted account, we will delete or anonymise personal information when it is no longer reasonably required.

Certain records may be retained where necessary to resolve an ongoing dispute, security incident or legal matter.

10. Analytics Data

Where analytics information can reasonably be linked to an identifiable user, we will aim to delete or anonymise that information as part of our deletion procedures.

Anonymous or aggregated statistical information that can no longer reasonably identify an individual may be retained.

11. Backups

Personal information may temporarily remain within secure system backups after deletion from the live service.

Backup copies are retained according to the backup schedule of our infrastructure providers.

Deleted information contained within backups will not be restored to active use except where necessary for legitimate disaster recovery or system restoration.

Where a backup is restored, applicable deletion requests will be reapplied where technically required.

Backup copies will eventually expire and be overwritten or deleted according to the applicable backup-retention schedule.

12. Legal Retention

In limited circumstances, we may be legally required to retain certain information beyond the standard 30-day deletion period.

This could include information necessary for:

  • Tax and accounting requirements
  • Legal claims
  • Fraud prevention
  • Payment disputes
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Law enforcement obligations where legally valid

Where this applies, we will retain only the information reasonably necessary for the required purpose and delete it when the applicable retention obligation ends.

13. Cancelling Without Deleting Your Account

Cancelling a paid subscription does not automatically delete your Salaam Sleep account.

If you cancel your subscription but keep your account, your account information may remain stored so that you can continue using any available account functionality or return to Salaam Sleep later.

If you want your personal account information deleted, you must also request account deletion.

14. Changing Your Mind During the 30-Day Period

Where technically available, you may contact Salaam Sleep support during the 30-day deletion period if you believe your account was deleted accidentally.

We cannot guarantee that an account can be restored once deletion processing has begun.

After permanent deletion has been completed, the account and associated personal information cannot normally be recovered.

15. Your Data Protection Rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights relating to your personal information, including the right to:

  • Access your information
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion
  • Restrict certain processing
  • Object to certain processing
  • Request certain information in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent

We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

16. Contacting Salaam Sleep

If you have questions about data retention or wish to request deletion of your information, please contact us through the support/contact system within Salaam Sleep.

We may ask for sufficient information to verify that you are the account holder before processing certain requests.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Data Retention & Deletion Policy as Salaam Sleep develops or where our legal, technical or operational requirements change.

The latest version will be made available through Salaam Sleep.
