About This Story

Tonight's story is called Ruqqayyah and the Crescent Meadow. When Ruqqayyah visits the meadow behind her village one evening, she can't stop noticing all the lovely things her friends have — a sparkling bracelet, a soft new shawl, a beautiful painted lantern — and starts to feel like her own plain, quiet life isn't quite enough. She picks up an ordinary grey pebble by the pond, disappointed it isn't shiny like the treasures she has seen. But as the moon rises higher and Ruqqayyah looks closer at the meadow, the pebble, and the blessings already sitting quietly all around her, she learns that قَنَاعَة (contentment) is its own kind of treasure. By the end, Ruqqayyah discovers that the fullest heart isn't the one with the most things, but the one that says الْحَمْدُ لِلَّه (all praise is for Allah) for what it already holds.
