About This Story

Tonight's story is called The Lemur's Thankful Tree. When a little lemur spends his whole day in the Baobab Grove looking at what everyone else has instead of what he already holds in his own paws, he begins to feel small and unhappy — even though his branch is full of good things. It's only when a wise old tortoise shows him the grove's oldest baobab, the Thankful Tree, that he starts to understand something gentle and true: the sweetness of a blessing depends on how thankful the heart is that receives it. By the end, the little lemur learns to say Alhamdulillah اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰه for his own branch, his own fruit, and his own little life — and falls asleep the happiest he's ever been.
