About This Story

Tonight's story is called Ruqqayyah and the Moon That Loved Bedtime. When Ruqqayyah's mind won't stop spinning at bedtime — full of tomorrow's worries and today's leftover thoughts — she finds a strange glowing shell washed up beneath her window in Moonlight Bay. The shell hums, but only when she is still. Chasing that stillness, Ruqqayyah learns from her grandmother that the moon, the tides, and her own restless heart all follow the same gentle rhythm that Allah اللَّه has set for the whole world. By the end, Ruqqayyah discovers that saying الْحَمْدُ لِلَّه — Alhamdulillah — for her day and placing her trust in Allah اللَّه before sleep is what finally lets her, and the little glowing shell, rest.
