About This Story

Tonight's story is called Ruqqayyah and the Floating Feather. When her best friend Imaan says something that hurts her feelings right before their favorite lantern festival, Ruqqayyah doesn't know what to do with the tightness in her chest. She visits the quiet waters of Feather Lake, where her grandmother teaches her an old, gentle tradition — placing a feather on the water and watching it drift away, carrying the hurt with it. Along the way, Ruqqayyah learns that forgiveness isn't about pretending nothing happened, but about choosing peace anyway, because Allah الله (God) loves those who forgive. By the end, Ruqqayyah and Imaan are laughing together again beneath the lantern-lit sky, and Ruqqayyah falls asleep with a heart as light and calm as a feather resting on still water.

The Dua

Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts any resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful.

— Surah Al-Hashr, 59:10
