About This Story

Tonight's story is called The Lantern of Barakah. When six-year-old Ismail is given a beautiful brass lantern by his grandfather at the glowing Lantern Market, he decides it is his — only his — and he holds it close, refusing to share its light with anyone. But the lantern begins to grow dim and dull with every kindness he turns away. It isn't until Ismail finally opens his hands, and his heart, to give — that the little lantern blazes brighter than ever before. By the end, Ismail learns that giving never makes us smaller. It's how Allah اللّٰه fills our lives with light.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, a good and halaal provision, and deeds that are accepted.
